My theatre directing experience comes from 10 years teaching middle school Theatre and 3 years teaching high school Technical Theatre in San Antonio. In both roles, I directed as well as designed set, costumes, and lights for plays. I worked closely with student designers and crew leads at the high school level on sets, costumes, lights, sound, and projections. My philosophy for directing educational theatre is to always have the students take the lead on projects and model and mentor them as they work and gain experience in the area of theatre that interests them. Even if students chose to pursue other careers, a theatre education gives them the soft skills they need to excel in any profession.
